Recently admitted undergraduate students who have not attended classes and would like to request a deferral must carefully read, complete and submit the Enrollment Deferral Request Form.  Student’s requesting a deferral must submit the request by the end of the term for which you were originally admitted.  For example, if you have been accepted for the fall semester but wish to defer to the spring, you must have this form submitted before the fall term ends in the beginning of December.

Requests for deferral are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and submitting the request form does not guarantee that deferral will be approved. Requests for deferral will not be approved if you are attending another college or university prior to enrolling at UNC. Possible reasons to request the deferral may include military service, humanitarian efforts, religious service, and personal matters.  Additional documentation may be required.

Deferrals will only be granted for up to three semesters (including summer) after your original application semester.  For example, if you have been admitted for Fall 2019 you may request a deferral to attend Spring 2020, Summer 2020, or Fall 2020.

Written notification of the deferral decision will be sent via email within one week after the completed form is submitted.
